The World Entrepreneurship Development Organization (WeDO) is a Washington, DC–based nonprofit dedicated to enabling, supporting, and promoting entrepreneurial ecosystems worldwide. WeDO advances the sharing of best practices and fosters equitable entrepreneurship development in least-developed, landlocked, and developing countries, with a strong focus on empowering women and marginalized communities. Through culturally appropriate livelihood initiatives, WeDO supports entrepreneurship as a viable pathway to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our Mission

The World Entrepreneurship Development Organisation (WeDO) is dedicated to advancing an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable global entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Organization promotes the adoption of international best practices and supports equitable entrepreneurship development, with a particular focus on least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs), and other developing economies.

WeDO prioritizes the economic empowerment of women and marginalized populations through culturally responsive and locally grounded livelihood interventions that are sustainable, scalable, and replicable. Through capacity-building, applied research, knowledge dissemination, and evidence-based policy advocacy, WeDO strengthens independent decision-making and entrepreneurial leadership.

By fostering entrepreneurship as a driver of job creation, social inclusion, and economic resilience, WeDO contributes to national and global development priorities and supports the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Organization aspires to serve as a global catalyst for entrepreneurship by empowering individuals and communities—particularly women and marginalized populations—through innovative, locally grounded, and culturally responsive solutions.

WeDO seeks to foster a dynamic global entrepreneurial community in which entrepreneurship acts as a key driver of social inclusion, economic transformation, and progress towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to shared prosperity and a sustainable future for present and future generations.

Aims and Objectives of WeDO

The primary aims and objectives of the World Entrepreneurship Development Organisation (WeDO) are as follows:

  • To advance entrepreneurship development as a strategic priority in addressing pressing economic and social challenges, and to inspire youth to pursue entrepreneurship as job creators by building sustainable, scalable, and replicable enterprises.
  • To promote independent, decentralized, and autonomous decision-making as a foundational principle of entrepreneurship and an essential enabler of democratic and inclusive economic systems.
  • To design, coordinate, and implement training, research, and knowledge-generation initiatives—independently or in collaboration with governments, institutions, and organizations—through research studies, policy papers, conferences, seminars, workshops, and training programmes related to entrepreneurship, global e-commerce, equitable trade, and labour welfare.
  • To develop, pilot, and standardize field-tested strategies and methodologies for entrepreneurship development, leveraging digitalization and adapting approaches to urban and rural contexts, diverse target groups, clusters, and regions, while generating applied knowledge for incubation and acceleration.
  • To support policy formulation and implementation by providing training and analytical inputs to government and non-government stakeholders engaged in entrepreneurship promotion, self-employment, labour welfare, industrial development, e-commerce, international trade, and socio-economic development.
  • To design and deliver training, assessment, certification, and advisory services aimed at enhancing management efficiency, productivity, technology adoption, innovation, incubation, acceleration, and internationalization critical to enterprise growth.
  • To promote and participate in partnerships, projects, and programmes of cooperation at national, regional, and international levels in support of entrepreneurship and MSME development.
  • To undertake capacity-building initiatives that translate research and training into action and empowerment, with a particular focus on women and youth through entrepreneurship-led development.
  • To document, publish, and disseminate knowledge and best practices related to entrepreneurship and enterprise development—including industrial, business, rural, and social enterprises—and to support training and capacity building of trainers and professionals in the field.
  • To accredit, establish, and promote incubators, accelerators, and training centres globally to strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystems across regions.
  • To provide platforms for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange of experiences and best practices among government and non-government agencies, enterprise associations, labour organizations, and entrepreneurs through both physical and digital forums.
  • To catalyze entrepreneurship, self-employment, and enterprise creation by fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and supporting regional and national research initiatives in entrepreneurship development.
  • To develop and implement standards, frameworks, methodologies, assessment systems, certification processes, and qualifications for entrepreneurial education, skills development, incubation, acceleration, and human resource development across the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • To support and affiliate networks of institutions and organizations engaged in entrepreneurship development activities and to function as a global apex resource for accelerating entrepreneurship development across developed and developing economies and all sections of society.
  • To provide research-based information, training, assessment, and professional development support to entrepreneurs, trainers, promoters, coaches, consultants, and incubation and acceleration professionals.
  • To offer international consultancy, advisory services, technical know-how, and publications to governments, business membership organizations (BMOs), and development institutions for the promotion of entrepreneurship and small business development.
  • To create international platforms for the exchange of information, best practices, trade opportunities, and policy dialogue between entrepreneurs and policymakers, supporting informed policy formulation and adaptation across borders.
  • To establish research and development centres aligned with targeted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and evidence-based practice in entrepreneurship development.
